The Sonoma Renovation is an extensive reimagining of a 1990’s Balinese inspired home in the hills surrounding Lake Sonoma.

The existing home consisted of a dramatic section but a disorganized floor plan. The original segmented spaces felt out of scale and out of date – large but not grand, with dated finish elements.  Much of our work came with uniting the main living spaces, not only in plan but with materials as well. Select walls were removed, and exterior walls with punched openings were replaced with large glass doors.  Existing Saltillo tile and clerestory windows remained untouched, giving a foundation for the palette. New fir boards line upper walls down to a datum height, bringing warmth to the spaces and imparting a human scale. Copper and white oak cabinetry highlight specific design elements; large doors to the family room, a built-in bar, and the kitchen vent hood. New materials were chosen for their rich, handmade quality, creating a relaxed yet sophisticated environment.

Outside, existing wooden shade structures were replaced with steel trellises extending into the landscape. Capturing space within the vast northern California hill country provides users with new areas for living, cooking, and enjoying a fire pit.
