Highland Park Renovation & Addition

Sitting on a large, sloped lot in the Northwest Hills neighborhood, this House expands on an existing home, while still being neighborly to its surroundings. What was once a 2,600 square foot ranch style home became a full home renovation and 1,600 square foot addition. Taking the existing home down to the structure allowed for reworking for a more functional layout for the family of five.

The addition of the second story not only allows for more space, but also takes advantage of the expanding views from the property. Northwest facing windows introduce new vantage points to the Bright Leaf Preserve sitting below. New finishes and features bring the home into the 21st century while also playing on its classic features.

Low sloped hip roofs on the front of the house keep the profile of the second story addition at a scale that fits within the context of the neighborhood while also complimenting the existing profile. Working within the Wildland-Urban Interface, the house cuts into a limestone outcropping and lifts in the second story to look up the limestone that descends towards the house.
