LandLab Exhibit

Elizabeth Alford taught a vertical design studio at UT in Fall 2010 entitled ‘Studio Ex-Situ’. Students were asked to explore physical representations of surface, to test model-making techniques, systematic sectioning and manipulation of landform as the starting point of design.[more]

This course taught by Dason Whitsett seeks to provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of how buildings interact with their energetic environment, i.e. the natural energy that flows around and through them. Developing an intuitive grasp of the principles that govern this interaction is critical for the designer or adviser in order to have the ability to apply sound energy design principles in the early stages of a project when they matter most. On February 10-11, 2011 Dason Whitsett will be teaching a two-day seminar through the UT Cockrell School of Engineering Center for Lifelong Engineering Education entitled Green Building and Sustainable Communities. This course is designed for planners, architects, engineers, developers, government officials and others who wish to investigate the underlying principles of sustainable design and gain a working knowledge of strategies and tools with which to apply that knowledge.

Dason Whitsett developed and teaches a course entitled Energy Modeling & the Design Process at The University of Texas School of Architecture. Click here to visit the course website.

Energy simulation is frequently touted as a necessity for the design of energy efficient buildings, however simulation alone will not result in an optimal solution. For energy modeling to be useful, the designer must have the skills to apply the art as well as the science of energy modeling to guide design decisions when they matter most: early in the design process.
